PATRIOTIC FUNDS.
PROPOSED POOLING. PROTEST TO MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N.. Tuesday. The Manawatu Patriotic Society resolved to protest against Ihc proposal recently made Unit patriotic societies’ funds throughout llie Dominion should be pooled and vested in a central body. The proposals were outlined in a idler received from the Undersecretary of Internal Affairs, who staled that a conference would be held shortly to discuss the subject. The Palmerston North Returned Soldiers’ Association forwarded a resolution of protest against merging Hie funds, while tlie Hawke’s Bay Patriotic Society wrote objecting to any nationalisation of funds.
During the discussion it was stated that the administration costs of the Palmerston North Society were the lowest in the Dominion. It was decided to express agreement with the R.S.A. resolution, report action to the Hawke’s Bay Society, and write to the Minister protesting against lidding a conference and the suggestion to amalgamate the funds.
