Another source of demand has been Canada, which has lalcen 40,000 cases or Australian butler off this market. Against this improved demand must he set the fact, that there are large stocks stored here, and the European production of butter is likely to increase steadily. SHIPMENTS FOR CANADA. DUMPING DUTY IMPOSED. OTTAWA, March 13. Mr G. 11. Bolvin, Minister of Customs and Excise, announces that shipments of butter from Australia within the last few days have been accepted upon payment of a duty of 4 cents a lb. This duty represents 1 cent a lb under the Australian treaty and a further duty of 3 cents under the dumping clause. The Minister said the extra duty under the dumping clause was being collected pending an investigation to determine whether the price of butter for home consumption in Australia is more than 5" per cent, higher than the price of Australian butter as sold in Canada.
