HAMILTON CITY BAND.

CONCERT TO RAISE FUNDS. ENTERTAINING MUSICAL ITEMS. To augment the Hamilton Municipal Band's fund to enable it to compete at the forthcoming Band contest at Duncdin, a'concert was held in the Theatre Royal last evening. Regrettable to say, the attendance was small. Due to the fact that every possible moment has been availed of for practice, Band members have shown a marked improvement of late, and their playing was really good. Indeed, if they are fortunate enough, to be able to visit the Dunedin contest, and play there as they did last evening, they should bo a hard combination to beat in the various sections in which they compete. The programme was not confined to Band selections, but consisted of a number of entertaining items by the best of local talent. Under the baton of their conductor (Mr Mara) the Banc! opened with a contest march, and later contributed in no small measure to the success of the programme with other contest pieces and topical selections. A monologue, '•Pagan's Last Night Alive." was given with dramatic effect by Mr R. A. Kiddey. Others who appeared with success were:—Mrs F. Booth, Miss D. Cower, Messrs H. Piper, W. 11. Saunders, songs; cornet solo, Mr 11. Brown; trombone solo, Mr P. Russell; euphonium solo, Mr M- McKenzic; duot, Messrs Outtrim and Young; classical, dance, Miss Moore. Mr Piper played the accompaniments and Mr S. Clothier played the bag pipes for the dancing.
