OVERSEA MARKETS.

BIG ADVERTISING SCHEME. All Stales were represented at the meeting of the Dairy Produce Control Board in Melbourne, and the report of the hoard’s representatives at a conference convened by the Department of Markets and Migration to evolve' a scheme for advertising Australian produce in Great Britain and overseas markets recommended £IOO,000 yearly in advertising. Of this it was estimated that from £50,000 to £GO,OOO would be contributed by the Dried Fruits Board, the Dairy Produce Control Board, and the associations connected with canned fruit, wines and meat. The Federal Government would be asked to supplement contributions by at least £50,000. It was also anticipated that the Imperial Economic Committee would give a substantial grant from the amount proposed to be made available for the encouragement of the consumption of Empire produce in the United Kingdom.

The board voted £IO,OOO for advertising and propaganda in overseas countries during 192 G. The expenditure of this money will be vested in the. London agency in conjunction with a joint committee of organisations representing Australian producers.

In view of the adverse climatic and industrial conditions, the question of withholding supplies from shipment was deferred till next meeting. The shipping companies will be asked to arrange for more ships to call at Brisbane. The London Advisory Committee had cabled that the oversea shipping companies had declined to proceed with negotiations for a reduction of the freight on butter and cheese shipped to London pending settlement of the seamen's strike.
