A by-elec lion was held at Galloway to-day" to 1111 ihe-vacancy in the House of Commons created by the death on October 7 of Vice-Admiral Sir A. J. Ilcnnikcr-llughan, of Airds (Conservative). The polling resulted: —
Votes. Captain Streatficld (Con.) 10,846 Major Dudgeon (Liberal) 0,918 John Mitchell (Labour) . 4,207 Conservative majority .. 928 The result of the polling for the Galloway scat at the general election of 1924 was as follows: —Sir A. J. Ilcnnikcr-llughan (Conservative), 12,208; .Major Dudgeon (Liberal), 10,851; Conservative majority, 1417. la 1923 Major Dudgeon, who was then Ihe sitting member, was returned unopposed.
