HAMILTON TELEPHONES.
INSTALLATION OF AUTOMATICS. MANY IMPROVEMENTS MADE. During the past few days a number of improvements have been made to the Hamilton telephone system. Eighty subscribers have been switched over from the rural io Hie automatic seclion. The old manual ’phone on these rural lines is oiten a cause of inconvenience, as connection has to be made by ringing central. All subscribers within a five-mile radius of tlie Hamilton Post Office now have the automatic installed. The installation of automatic penny-in-tiie-slot telephone boxes in Hamilton is also a decided improvement. The penny is not first placed in the slot as in the old type of ’phono. The number required is dialled in Ihe ordinary way and on receiving an answer tiie penny is inserted in the slot. The person at the oilier end, however, cannot hear any conversation until the machine receives the coin.
