UNIVERSITY SENATE.
THE CLAIMS OF COMMERCE
v ßy Telegraph.—Press Association.) CIIRISTCITURCIT, Monday.
At the University Commission this morning represcntafves of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce submitted suggestions as to the methods by winch the university colleges might send out a fair proportion of men and women better equipped to take an important part in the development of the commerce and industries which contribute largely io the Dominion's wealth in that respect. Witnesses slated that sufficient advantage was not taken of consultation with representatives of commerce and industry. It was easy to map out courses of study that just missed being of practical use for want of a little practical Knowledge. The chamber felt that specialised university courses of, say, two years, in certain subjects taking students from, say 18 to 20 years, would be very valuable.
