BOWLING TOURNAMENT.

FIRST DAY OF PLAY. FOUR SECTIONS ENGAGED. The annual bowling tournament controlled by the Combined Hamilton Clubs, which was to have commenced yesterday, had to be delayed owing to the heavy rain, but a start was made this morning at the Hamilton and Whitiora greens. A and B sections are at Whitiora, and C and D at Hamilton. The greens were on the holding side af.tej >the heavy rain, but were otherwise !in gooqWder. Three games of 21 heads e'acrt are to be played by each rink to-day, while the order of play for Monday will be decided later. Prior to play commencing this morning official openings were" held on both greens, the Mayor (Mr J. R. Fow), performing that duty at Hamilton, while the chairman of the tournament committee (Mr D. G. Meredith), officiated at Whitiora. In extending a welcome to the bowlers, the speakers regretted that the wet weather had oaused an upset in affairs, but trusted that matters would return to a satisfactory state to permit of the tournament going off without further interruption. Yesterday the visiting bowlers were catered for by the local enthusiasts. The visitors have been made honorary members of the Waikato Club during their stay here, amLlast evening were the guests of the Strand Theatre. Tomorrow they will be taken for a run to Arapuni.
