Merion hi their first innings scored 204 runs, and the visitors made 309. Merion in their second venture compiled 132 and the visitors 33 for no wickets. ATHLETICS. HAMBURG, September 17. "Slip" Carr (Australia) won a 50 metres race here to-day in 5 1-lOsec. and a 100 metres event in 11 l-10sec. INTERNATIONAL POLO. NEW YORK, September 16. The United States Polo team won the second match against the English team to-day by 14 goals to 5, America thus retains the international polo trophy. A third match will be played, but it will not affect the result. SCULLING. SYDNEY, September 17. Paddon and Goodsell are steadily training on the Woodburn course for Saturday's sculling championship race. Paddon, in an interview, stated that he expected a hard race. Most of the public thought there was no chance of his losing the title, but Goodsell was young and had improved
