HUNTING.

MEETING AT THE NARROWS. The Waikalo Hounds met at the residence of Mr A. Miller, The Narrows, on Saturday the 6th, and extra interest was taken in the meet owing 1.0 its being the first time Ihc hounds had ever hunted over Ibis country. Mr Miller and his neighbours had spared neither time nor trouble in laying out the country, and it proved lo be as pretty a piece of hunting territory as .there is in the Waikalo. Steady rain set. in about 10 a.m.. but did not deter a lar ; 2e number from turning out. Before starting Mr and .Mrs Miller entertained members and friends at their pretty old house in the good old hunting stylo at a hearty sitdown breakfast. The hunting was very enjoyable, but hares were not too plentiful. However, the hounds had a good day but unfortunately the best run of the day was marred from a follower's point of view owing io so much young grass. The Hounds, registered one kill and ■chopped another. About. 3.30 p.m. the hounds were called off and the held adjourned to the homestead, where one and all were most hospitably entertained at afternoon lea. The master, Mr Wynn Brown, in proposing Ihe toast of Mr and .Mrs Miller, said he fell sure if was due mo-',! to the popularity of their host and hostess than to Ihe actual meet that such a splendid gathering had been attracted, despile Ihe inclement weather. On behalf of the members be thanked them for their lavish hospitality and sulci Ihe hunt owed them a debt of gratitude for opening up a new and pretty piece of hunting country and there, would b-: another meet or two held Ihere Ibis season. Ranstead and party. .In the evening a very enjoyable fiance was held in the. barge and beautifully decorated rooms at Ihe homestead, and despite the inclemency of the weather and Ihe long distance some of Ihe guests had to travel afler a hard day's hunting, there was ;» very large gathering to say Au Rovoir lo I heir host, y\r Miller, on Ihe eve 0* his departure for nn extended Aus-tralian-tour. Dancing was continued until midnight, when a red letter clay in Waikalo hunting was brought to a close with the sing.ng of "For They are Jolly Good fellows." Music was supplied by various guests and the hostess.
