DAVIS CUP CONTEST.
N.Z. v. CZECHOSLOVAKIA. NOT A RUNAWAY MATCH. . .. (Australian ?nd N.Z. Cable Apsn:) LONDON. May .2.9. . The Australian Press Association has received details from Prague showing that the Davis Cup matches' were much closer than might appear, and very little would'have sufficed to. turn the scale in New Zealand's favour. Fisher W as 3—o and 40—30 in the. fifth set, when a service which, would have given him the game was given .out. When four all he had the bad luck to break his racquet., ... .
.In Peacock's match with Zemla, the latter was Tiring, and if Peacock could have secured the' first and third sets, which were vantage sets, it is doubtful whether Zemla. would .have lasted, as he was somewhat out of condition. The doubles contest was also touch-and-go. Possibly Fisher would have beaten Zemla if it had been necessary to play him, as the latter had skinned his .foot on the previous day. There were large attendances, and the crowd was most impartial. The New Zealanders-were treated in the most, kindly manner-and enjoyed their visit, immensely. . They are staying at Prague .this'week, "and participating in the tourney in which the Swiss Davis Cup men are playing.
