SHOW CHAT.

The improved ventilation at the Show .this year, is very. noticeable. This has been brought about by providing for many more escapes for the. foul air which hangs near the roof, and also by making the avenues wider and by keeping open additional windows and doors. A few years' ago the overheated atmosphere was the subject of very adverse comment, but the faults in this respect have now been remedied, and the buildings are remarkably cool even at the busy parts of the day. A feature of the Show are the decorations, which reflect credit upon thos'e responsible for carrying them out. To successfully and efficiently decorate a number of spacious building's like those which house the show is' no small matter, but the work has been efficiently and skilfully done, and the responsible person or persons are to be congratulated- . Amongst the most assiduous workers at the Show is Mr T. J. Mitchell. Mr Mitchell invariably has charge.of the ticket office, and is not therefore in the limelight like many of the more prominent officials. His duties require him to be always on the spot, however, and the association never has the least cause to worry over anything left in his capable hands. Other officials who always appear to be on the move and who render an invaluable service- to the association, are Messrs W. Wallace and W. .E. Clark. We must not forget to mention, either, the secretarial staff. Of Mr. W. Paul, secretary, little of' course need be said, for everybody knows that, without him the Show could scarcely continue. His staff, however, are exceedingly hard worked, and housed as they are in a pokey little office, the wonder is that they are able to keep tally of all the intricate details with which they have to deal. Both the association and the public have reason to thank Mrs Gothorpe and those under her' for' the capable handling of the clerical duties.

The wretched state of the roads, brought about by the constant heavy rains of the past few weeks, has. militated against the attendance, as many of the country people have not chosen to risk the perils of a journey in with the chance of being stuck in the mud for hours. This. is.a great pity, both for the association and the country people- themselves. It is merely one more argument, however, in favour of a sound policy of permanent roads throughout the whole district. Mr Gallon, manager of the Belvedere Cheese Factory, Wairarapa, this year becomes the proud possessor of the fine cup" presented by Messrs Davidson, of England, for factory cheese. When we say the proud possessor, we mean that the trophy becomes actually his, as this is the third time he has won it, and he takes it away as his own personal property. The association will now have to look around for another suitable cup to replace it. The Show is so well-known, however, that there should be no difficulty in this respect.
