POOR COMPETITION, BID/DING VERY SLACK. There was b'>t poor competition at the High School Calf Club sale at the Winter f,now this morning, and the sale d J(: ] not receive the public supPOri that it warranted. Some stlendid young stuff of all broods was on offer. but bidding was slack. The highest price realised was 26gns paid for a Shorthorn bred by Mr F. Thomas, Roto-tuna, and purchased by D. Salisbury, of Puk.etaha. A Frlesian bull belonging to N. Ferguson, of Norfolk Downs, also touched the same figure, being sold to G. T. N. Ross, of Hamilton East, while another bull of the same breed, the properly of L. Paterson, was sold lo A, M. Hodgson, Tainahere, for IGgns. The hlgiicsl priced Jersey was a splendid little bull calf, bred by ' Desmond Ellicott, which secured first prize for I lie best reared animal, and second for type. [| was sold for 23gns lo Mr T. Taylor, of Okorolre. The animal has a very good pedigree. Its dam. now under test, is doing splendidly, while Its grand-dam, Chelsea Flower, has a semi-official record of 7081 b. while the calf is a descendant of the great grand dam of Vivandier. that wonderful cow belonging to Mr Christie, which promises to become the champion cow of the Empire. Other Jerseys where they showed good condition sold well, bringing up to 15gns. There was no sale of Ayrshires. Mr G, Vercoc gave ills services gratuitously as auctioneer,
