AUCKLAND HARBOUR.

ANNUAL MEETING OF BOARD.

At the annual meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board on May 27 Mr H. R. Mackenzie was re-elected chairman and Mr M. H. Wynyard deputy chairman for the ensuing twelve months. It was resolved that the sidings to Princes Wharf should be built under license from the Auckland City Council under the Municipal Corporations Act, an amendment in the direction of seeking authority to extend the present railway sidings to Princes Wharf having been defeated.

The chairman's anual report stated, inter alia:— Summarised, the board's balancesheet shows—Assets (Auckland and Manukau) £4,723,123 15s 4d, liabilities £2,710,517 Is 7d; surplus, £2, 012,606 12s 0d; revenue, £315,543 2s lid; expenditure, £240,834 4s 4d; depreciation written off £28,618 3s Od; surplus, £46,001 14s lOd; appropriations to sinking funds and reserves £30,080; net surplus carried to renewals and contingencies reserve, £10,875 10s 2d; deficit charged to renewals and contingencies reserve, £863 15s 4d. The insurance and other reserve funds amount to £56,041 13s 4d, and the sinking funds in the hands of the commissioners to £296,413 13s 7d. The capital value of the board's lands and improvements now stands at approximately three-quarters of a million pounds, of which the board's interest is two million pounds. Reference 'o the returns attached to the balancesheet will show that the goods imported in to Auckland Harbour in 1023 amounted to 1,261,947 tons, an increase of 181,426 tons over the imports for 1922. Exports amounted to 357,424 tons, an increase of 25,690 tons over 1923 figures. Transhipments (not included above) amounted to 70,086 tons.

The value of the imports (as shown by the Customs returns) was £15,031,014, and of the exports £11,336,704. Approximately half the imports came from, and three-quarters of the exports went to, the United Kingdom.
