PUTARURU'S PROGRESS.
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. The constitution of the Putaruru Chamber of Commerce was completed at a meeting held for the purpose on Monday evening in the Elite tearooms, Princess Street, ' Putaruru. There were present .Messrs G. G. Alcorn. Coslett, sen. and jun. H. McDonald, J. JI. Morris, P. G. Barrett, J. Smith, A. R. Vosper, J. 11. Hear R G. Brown, G. P. Portus, Johnson,' J. M. Spear, and G. E. .Martin. Mr Alcorn was appointed interim chairman, and Mr Martin interim secretary.
The provisional committee appointed at the inaugural meeting to draft a constitution and rules for the Chamber submitted a detailed compilation of rules, etc., which it considered would suit. it added that these wore based chiefly on the rules of other Chambers, and particularly on those of the Rotorua Chamhor. The meeting considered (he clauses one by one, and with sundry amendments adopted the full constitution and rules as recommended by tin 1 committee. These provided that the objects of the Chamber should be the promotion and protection of the progress and prosperity of Putaruru and its surrounding districts, and generally the nonunion of New Zealand; thai the Chamber should he a registered body: that ils financial year should he from May 1 to April 30*; that the oflicers should be a president, two vicepresidents, a secretary, a treasurer,and four councillors, these officers to comprise the executive: and that general meetings of the Chamber should be held each month.
The following were then unanimously elected the officers for the ensuing year:—President, Mr Barrett: vice-presidents, Messrs Spear and Alcorn; secretry, Mr Martin; assistant secretary, Mr Smith; treasurer, MiBrown; councillors, Messrs Bear, Morris, Portus, and McDonald. It was resolved that the general monthly meetings of the Chamber should be held on the third Monday in each month. An offer by Mr Portus to deal with the registration of the Chamber was accepted, and Mr Porfus thanked for it. other formal details worn also arranged.
The question of the Chamber taking over the affairs of the Development Board was discussed, and it was resolved thai the executive meet the board, which should then submit a written proposition lo the Chamber.
