ECONOMICS CLASS. The Hamilton branch of the Workers' Educational Association held its weekly meeting on Monday, the subject being "Land as an Agent in Production." The lecturer, Mr T. N. Pemberton, explained that land included all the natural resources' from which wealth may be drawn by the industry or ingenuity of man. It was shown that land furnished (a) standing room; (b) a basis from which to concentrate and operate natural forces; (c) thc elements needed by plant life; (d) natural products of supreme importance; (e) it was not thc product of labour; (f) it was a comparatively fixed quantity and could not be increased in extent to any degree by human activity; (g) it lasts for ever. Land was considered by the Physiocrats to be the sole source of wealth. There is a certain amount of truth in this, inasmuch as all material for manufactures, and all agricultural produce comes from the soil, but it must be remembered that these things cannot he produced without labour and the assistance of capital. At the close questions were answered. *

On Monday next the subject will be "Land Tenures."
