HAS FRANCE SECURED IT? STATEMENT BY MATTHEWS. FRENCH AGENT'S DECLARATION. , (Sydney Sun Cable.) Received May 29, 11.35 a.m. LONDON, May 2S. Matthews denies that he is bound by the three claimants, Gubbins, Baley and Sanborne, whose option he says, expired six weeks ago. If he docs not receive a British' offer by Friday afternoon, he will sogn the French contract, which covers an offer of £IOOO and share in the profits.
Against this M. Rover, with whom Matthews has been negotiating, has declared that Matthews' is not a free agent, as France has definitely secured his diabolical ray.
The Air Ministry announces that it. offered Mr Grindell Mali thews an opportunity 1.0 demonstrate Ih'is death >ray apparatus as long ago as February. It saw nothing in yesterday's demonstration to lead it lo credit the statements which have appeared in the press regarding -the possibilities of ithc inveulion.
