THE TAIHAPE TRAGEDY.

WIDOW'S CLAIM

£2OOO DAMAGES AWARDED

By Telegraph.—Press Association

WANGANUI, Wednesday

A sequel to the Taihape tragedy at the New Year when Anthony Moghan, farmer, killed Cordon John Cemmell during a drunken orgy was heard in the Supreme Court to-day when Rita Cemmell, wife of the deceased, sued Moghan for £3OOO representing the loss she had sustained. It was admitted that GemmeH's death was wrongfully caused by Moghan and at the time the former was in the employ of the defendant. The jury returned a verdict awarding £2OOO damages, £750 of which was awarded to the widow and £1250 to the child.

Mr Richmond moved for judgment in accordance with the jury's verdict.

His Honor ordered that the child's share should be paid to the Public Trustee for its administration on terms to be arranged later.
