HAMILTON DIAMOND JUBILEE.

I To the Editor. Sir,—l wish to thank Mr W. Johnston for the very good and sensible letter he wrote in reply to mine of the 14th ult., in reference to the above subject, and I am glad to find that his idea quite coincides with my own as regards the proposed alterations of the date in order to fit in with other arrangements, which I agree with him savours of disrespect to those who were as it were responsible for the foundation of Hamilton and to further forward our ideas in the matter of the Jubilee I would suggest that Mr Johnston get in touch with a few of the sons of the old veterans, such as Tom Hinton, It Alexander, Henry, Kelly, O’Neil, Cassidy, Foster, all sons of the old veterans, o : r any other he may know, and to arrange to have a meeting to form a working committee and arrange a. programme. Mr C. J. W. Barton, who was in Hamilton before I was, would take a part, and I feel certain that some of Hamilton’s more recent arrivals would assist in making the Diamond Jubilee a success. As for myself I am now in my 85th year and, of course, not as active as I used to be, but I still take a great interest in Hamilton, being now the only one still living of Hamilton’s first council, and also of Hamilton East first town board, but I have sufficient data with me to make a very interesting report of olden times, having got 215 pages of foolscape already of my life's experiences.—l am, etc., ISAAC COATES.
