MEDICAL SCHOOLS.
GRANT FROM GOVERNMENT.
AN IRRITATING POSITION
By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, Wednesday. The Director of Education notified the University Council that a further grant of £7OOO or £BOOO would be made for the new medical school. Above £7 5,000 has been approved already. In reply to a query if the committee has not yet agreed to call tenders for both the medical and dental schools, the chairman, Mr. T. K. Sidey, said he had sought by telegram to get authority from the Mnister of Education to call tenders for the dental school, but received a reply that the Minister would not return to New Zealand till December 26, and regretting that no authority could be given until the Minister had seen the dental school documents.
"I am bound to say," said Mr Sidey, "it is extremely irritating that the Minister should leave the country for something like two months without leaving anyone in authority in his Department. That is the position at present."
It was understood that the architect was in a position to call for tenders for botli buildings.
