OBITUARY.
MR WILLIAM J. SMITH. AUCKLAND. Wednesday. The first general manager of Ihe Auckland provincial railways, Mr William Jones Smith, died at his late residence, Mangere, on Sunday, aged 80. Born in Wales, Mr Smith was trained on the London and North-Western Railway, and came to New Zealand about 53 vears ago.

LORD SHAUGHNESSY.
VANCOUVER, December 10
The death is announced of Lord Shaughnessy, chairman of the Canadian Pa-ilk Railway Company. Lord Shaughnessy died of heart disease. He took part in a Knights of Columbus parade on Sunday and overstrained himself.
