THE LIGHTNING METHOD. ‘ LECTURE BY MR KYME. The ministry of song, or how to double Sunday school attendance and make New Zealand the most efficient musioal country in the world, was the subject dealt with by Mr Geo.'-Kymc at the Baptist Church on Tuesday evening. By the aid of a series of illustrated charts the lecturer demon- J strated how self reliance in reading time rhythms, transposition and - harmony could be quickly mastered. Ho also demonstrated tho simple Caruso method of tone vibration in voice culture, To demonstrate! the lightning method of tcachin'g, the lecturer invited six boys to come forward, and he said ho would undertake to teach them to transpose music he Had on a. sheet in 5 flats and 6 flats (D flat aiub G Hat) into sol fa, and then play S|'r on a mouth-organ. In less than live' minutes they had transposed the music and played it on six mouthorgans, much to the amusement of the uudienee. The lecturer then said: “ Y'ou good pnople may laugh, but I want to tell you that it takes far more musical knowledge to play a moulborgun than it does to play a piano, for Hie simple reason that one must know how to transpose music at sight to play it. Mr McKenzie, secretary of the Y.M.C.A., in moving a.hearty vote of thanks to 'the lecturer, invited the gentleman to the Y.M.G.A. on Friday night, when tty) lecture will be repeated. In the absence of Rev. H. G. Hercus through sickness Mr Frank Empson took tho chair.
