WHATAWHATA.

Football Ball. The eagerly looked forward to football ball got up by the United Club took place on Friday, and, the weather being in a gracious mood, there was a very large attendance from this and the surrounding districts. The arrangements reflected the greatest credit upon the committee responsible for them and the function was voted on all hands to be one of the most enjoyable and successful ever held in Whatawhata. The decorations were very much admired. Floor and supper alike were excellent, while the music, supplied by a Hamilton orchestra, left nothing to be desired. It is hoped that the fixture will become an annual one. Sickness.

A good deal of sickness is prevalent in the district, especially among the children, though fortunately most of the cases are of a mild character. The attendance at the local school has suffered considerably in consequence. The Farm.

The late spell of milder weather has had a beneficial effect upon the pastures which are now beautifuly green though feed as not yet very plentiful. Dairying is now in full swing, most of the herds being now up to full strength. Works In Progress. Gangs are at present engaged in erecting power lines and renewing the telegraph lines between here and Frankton. Work on the new bridge is also proceeding steadily, while the continued arrival of gravel lends colour to the hope that a good deal of metalling will he done during the approaching summer. Tennis. Local tennis players have not so far made a start, but I understand that the annual meeting is to be held on 6th October.
