PRODUCTION AND WAGES

BRITAIN'S FIRST TASK.

STOPPAGE OF DISCONTENT.

SQUARE DEAL FOR BOTH SIDES.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. Received September 15, 10,10 a.m. LONDON, September 14.

Rt. Hon. G. A. McCurdy, in a third article in the Daily Chronicle, says that,' although it is a much more difficult task than it was at the conclusion of the Napoleonic war lor Britain to Tegain her manufacturing supremacy, we can do it if the British people make up their minds to get to high standards of production and wages, a well-being which the United States and the Dominions enjoy, but they must do it themselves and not rely upon statesmanship. Britain must turn her gaze from the welter of confusion in Europe to the great territories and limitless resources of the Dominions, and explore afresh the possibilities of the Homeland. Our home lands' are capable of producing 50 to 100 per cent, more food than at present, but the first essential is to come to terms. Both workers and employers must get a square deal, and we must stop the rot of industrial discontent.
