DOCTOR'S ADVENTURES.
INEBRIATION ALLEGED. DISTURBANCE IN VICTORIA ST. A mild sensation was caused in Victoria Street, Hamilton, yesterday afternoon, by the behaviour of a medical practitioner from Putaruru, Selwyn Haslett. The doctor first attracted the attention of the police at Ward Street by his erratic driving. He narrowly averted a collision at . the corner, and then drove down the street to the Commercial Hotel, with the policeman in hot pursuit. The constable momentarily lost sight of his quarry, but when he reached the Commercial Hotel he saw llaslett's car drawn up. The doctor shortly afterwards appeared, and before he could be stopped jumped into his car and commenced to drive off. A largo motor lorry in his tracks was run down, and the doctor's car came to a sudden slop. Haslett was then arrested, but was later bailed out. When llaslett's name was called this morning at the Police Court to answer a charge of being drunk while in charge of a car, he failed to appear, but Mr King on his behalf stated that Haslett had been suddenly called away to Auckland, and a remand for a week was therefore granted.
