The Arapunl Quarry. The work of opening up the quarry from which the metal for tho concrete, etc., to bo used for tho Arapunl scheme is to be obtained is now in hand, a special gang of six men arriving on Thursday to undertake the work. Several moro men are to he sent later to augment the gang. The quarry is several miles up stream from tho Arapiuii dam site, and it is understood that somo of tho metal from it will be used In metalling portion of the new access road being formed to Arapunl from Putaruru. The Metalling Scheme. Little time is being lost in starting the work under the Putaruru-Tokoroa roads metalling scheme now that the first £SOOO is to hand. The Tirau road contract, covering the length from the Orakau bridge to the Putaruru Post Office, and for which £IOOO of the loan and £IOOO Government subsidy is allocated, is to be resumed immediately the weather is fine enough, while to-morrow Cr. K. S. Cox (Tokoroa Riding) is to accompany the county engineer, Mr Fitzgerald, over the Lichfield Road preparatory to calling tenders for the quarrying of local rock for the foundation metalling of this road.
