EDUCATING THE MAORI.
A SATISFACTORY REPORT.
FACILITIES APPRECIATED.
INCREASED SCHOOL ATTENDANCES.
By Telegraph.—Special to Times. "WELLINGTON, Tuesday
Allowing for the remoteness of their habitations it would appear that the Maori takes more kindly to going to school than the pnkcha. According, to the annual report on Maori education tabled in Parliament to-nigtlt the Maori school rolls last year increased by twice the percentage of increase at the public schools. The figures for Maoris all show an increase over the prevous year, the improvement in regularity of attendance being especially marked. The combined rolls of native schools last year were 6937, compared with 6547 in 1921. The average weekly roll and the average yearly attendance also show healthy increases. There is evidence of an arrest in the decline of the native population.
