HAMILTON WEST SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEfc

A meeting of the Hamilton West School Committee was held last night. Mr S. Wilson presided, and there were also present: Messrs 11. J, Wernham, 11. A. Whitakcr, It. Rcnshaw, M. Schotield, and It. F. Haycock. The headmaster, .Mr C. Sinclair, was also in attendance. A letter was received from Mr J. A. Young, M.P., with reference to the committee's representations that a school should be provided at Melville. Mr Young said he had brought the matter before tlie House, and Ihe Minister repeatedly said Hon. C. J. Parr had promised to visit the district during tlie recess.

A letter was also received from a Melville resident offering to let a house for use as a school, and it was decided to inspect, the premises, and discuss the matter when the. Minister visils the district.

The headmaster reported thai, the health of the school had shown a decided Improvement during tlie last few weeks. With a view lo encouraging regular attendance a challenge shield was presented lo the school by .Messrs Whitaker and Sohofichl, and the class having the highest attendance percentage each week has the honour nl" having the shield in the class-rooms for a. week. The headmaster said tlie scheme was working excellently, and there was great competition among the classes as lo who should hold the shield. Children anxious to maintain the reputation of the class look good care to see that others did not ulay truant.
