CRISIS IN GERMANY.

CABINET RESIGNS.

THE NEW CHANCELLOR.

SOCIALISTS PROGRAMME.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. LONDON, August 13. Herr Cuno has resigned, and Herr Streseman has been asked to form a Cabinet. The composition of the new Ministry is uncertain, as the support, of other parties is by mo -means guaranteed to Dr. Strescmann. The Berlin correspondent of the Times states that the Socialists, whilestrong enough to cause the fall of the Gumo Government, are not strong enough -to form their own Government. They seek rather a -coalition consisting of the present working coalition of the German People’s Party, the Centre P-arty and the Social Democrats, with a strong leaven of Socialists holding at least -three of the more important portfolios under the leadership of Dr. Strescmann. The Socialists were not thirsting for leadership under the present appalling conditions, but their hamds were forced -by the strong and -persistent demands of responsible Labour leaders. During the week workers besieged the Reichstag building, the Tra-de Union headquarters and the -offices of the directorates of various undertakings, coupling with clamour for more money demands for Herr Cuno’s resignation. The Socialist Party’s v resolution which deposed Herr Cun-o outlined thepolicy which Socialists arc prepared to support as follows; — 1. Vigorous reform of finances by contributions from trade and industry through guaranteed mortgaging -of real estate. 2. Restriction of inflation, and the issue of currency on a gold basis. 3. Wages to be -placed on a real value -basis. 4. An active foreign policy for solution of -the reparation problem, conditional upon the complete preserve tion of the nation’s unity and the sovereignty of the Republic. 5. Application tor membership of the League of Nations. 6. Dissociation of the Reichswar from all Illegal associations.
