DAIRY PRODUCE.
LONDON MARKET.
SUPPLIES STILL HELD UP.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. LONDON, August 9. The butter market is quiet. There is a small business in Australian and New Zealand butter ex store, but nothing is coming from ships. Prices arc nominally. New Zealand, choicest 172 s to 1745. Australian, 160 sto 1645. Fair quantities of butter are arriving from Baltic ports and discharging at Hay's Wharf, where the strikers have resumed.
Cheese is nominally unchanged. Mr Commonwealth dairy expert, visited Tooley Street, and inspected a number of butter floors. He discussed conditions of the trade with importers. Among suggestions he received was the desirability of Australia appointing a permanent agricultural commissioner in London whom importers could consult when complaints were received regarding grading, quality, condition, and excessive moisture in order that he might give an independent report. It was pointed out that Denmark, New Zealand, South Africa, and other countries had such commissioners.
