TURKEY'S NEW ERA.

GREAT JUBILATION.

ISMET PASHA ACCLAIMED.

REPUBLIC PROBABLE.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. CONSTANTINOPLE, Aug. 11

A specially-decorated train went to Chatalja to meet Ismel Pasha returning from Lausanne. The train carried the Governor of Constantinople, delegations from the non-Moslem communities, Greek, Armenian, and Jewish, and a party of Turkish women. A picturesque feature was the presence of children, dressed to represent Turkish victories, who surrounded a girl symbolising peace. After speeches and presentations, Ismet Pasha resumed his journey in Abdul Hamid's State compartment. On arriving at Constantinople he was loudly cheered. He proceeded along a bcflagged route to the headquarters of the Angora Government's delegation, where he was received by Allied generals, including General Sir Charles Harrington, who, in welcoming him, referred to' the good relations between British and Turkish troops. Sir Charles added that all measures had been taken to carry out the evacuation.

Deputies met at Angora and elected Mustapha Kemal Pasha a candidate for the Presidency of the National Assembly, and Felhi Bey for the Premiership. The Assembly is to meet on Saturday. After an important speech by Kemal Pasha it will proceed to the formal election of the President. It is expected that one of the first acts of the Assembly will be to proclaim Turkey a Republic.
