SCULLING MATCH.
WIN FOR HAOFIELD
United Press Association. SYDNEY, August 12. The professional sculling handicap, rowed on the Paramatta yesterday, resulted in a win for lladfleld, the NewZealand sculler, who was defeated, in the River recently. Paddon qualified for the. world's championship on the Richmond final, hut was incapacitated to contest it owing to a weakness contracted by an attack of influenza. The following are the results:—
First Heat.—Fisher, 555, 1; Saul, 225. 2; lladfleld, 7s. 3. Second heat: Cobb, 'i2s, 1; McDevilt, 13s, 2; Padd.on. scr.. 3. Third heat: T. Saul, 17s. 1: Goodsell, 10s, 2: Cerufi, 425, 3. Final.—Haillield. 1: Goo'dsell, 2: Ceruti 3; T. Saul, i. The race was rowed in semi-darkness, and it was difficult, from the official boat, to discern one senile;- from another. After' a hard race Iladflold won by two lengths, amidsl tumultuous applause. Iladtieiil staled afterwards that he had an e.isy rnw over Iho first portion of the race, hul Ihe final stage was hard. The residents of Gladesville presented Hailfleld with a wallet and a bag for -his wife. After his heat Paddon broke down, as a result of influenza, and had to be assisted from his boat.
