REPPRESENTATIVE MATCH. KING COUNTRY V. WAIKATO. The weather conditions were almost perfect for this match, played at Taumarunui on Saturday, which was the first representative game of the code in the district, and as a consequence considerable interest was manifested. The home side won the toss, which, however, was of little advantage, and they were the first to become aggressive, Speers and Brookes both being prominent in this connection, the former making a capital attempt to score, his shot being inches only over the bar. However, play veered round in the visitors' favour, though it was obvious they had not yet settled down, and it was left to Spence, from the centre of the field, to secure possession, and with a really great run and a truly magnificent shot, to open up the scoring for the King Country, and from that moment onwards to the finish of the game, the most intense enthusiasm prevailed. Waikato were quickly attacking and for twenty minutes the home defenders passed through a strenuous period, Barnett just missing, and being stopped in the nick of time. Wishart when only a yard or two out handled the ball, Barnett scoring a goal, he, however, being ruled offside, in fact the visitors could do anything but score, and great praise is due to Spence, Ibcster, and Congdon for their magnificent defence.

King Country look a turn in attack now and again, though very little of importance secured from these movements, and when the teams crossed over King Country were leading by one goal to nothing. The second spell opened with the visitors doing the bulk of the attacking, Barnett, however, being particularly well marked, and v Moon had hard lines in not scoring. The home side followed with a breakaway, Graham eventually forcing a corr.er off King which was cleared. However, the home side still kept pegging away and considering the pace set up in the first half' were lasting out well, Chamberlain putting in a good shot which gave Wilkinson some trouble in clearing, whilst down at the other end Moon, with only the goalkeeper to beat, and from close' range, by some means or other, shot over, and so King Country were still in the ascendancy. Ten minutes before the close, as the result of a breakaway, from midfield, Kerr secured, and with a whole heap of screw on the bail beat Wilkinson for the second goal of the match, and the home spectators were in high glee. Waikato still continued on the attack upon resuming five minutes before time Crabb received possession and with a well directed kick placed the ball accurately for Moon to have very little trouble in scoring for the visitors, and with the whistle sounding soon afterwards, the King Country won by two goals to one, after one of the best exhibitions of the code seen in the district, both winners and losers showing equally in the display they put up. Commenting on the individual players, the visiting defence was quite good, the half back )ine as a whole being the weakest line. Of the forwards, Barnett was covered up at every opportunity he secured the ball, though he gave several glimpses of delicacy of touch during the game. Crabb gave a good display on the extreme left, and both Daniells and Moon were always in the limelight. Of the homesters, Spence at centre half gave a very spectacular display, both in defence and attack shining repeatedly, his opening goal being a gem of the first water. The whole half line, however, played sound football and as a division were certainly stronger than the visitors. In goal Isbester played well, but he had a great deal to be thankful for in the tackling abilities of the backs, both Congden and Pounell being undoubtedly the hardest worked men on the field, and to these two last-mentioned players and Spence the honours of the King Country must go. Kerr, on the outside right, was .the best forward, and should have a decided future before him, Brookes and Gydc also doing well at times, lack of combination being the most noticeable feature in this line. Mr Williams, Taumarunui, refereed. Claudeland Rovers v. Huntly Colts. With the star attraction of the code being at Taumarunui, this was the only match played in the district, after a very close game Huntly winning by one goal lo nothing. Mr T. G. Wilkes was referee. AUCKLAND, Saturday. Philomel 3, v. North Shore 2. Harbour Board 2, v. Brotherhood 1. Northcote 4, v. Ponsonby 2. Y.M.G.A. 1, v. Thistle 1. . I
