EDUCATION CONFERENCE.

DOMINION UNREPRESENTED. ALMOST A SCANDAL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Friday. At a meeting of the Council of Education to-day Mr J. R. Kirk protested at the non-representation of New Zealand at the Imperial Education Conference now being held in England. Mr J. Caughley, Director of Education, should have been sent. The absence of the Dominion from the conference almost amounted to a scandal. On the motion of Mr Kirk it was resolved to draw the attention of the Government to the desirableness of the Director of Education visiting Britain to make a study of educational methods as established abroad. The Council of Education to-day resolved that it be a recommendation to the Department that it retain teachers in aided schools as at present where special provision for teaching is provided, and that the Minister of Education be advised to provide travelling allowances for pupils attending secondary schools.
