LICE-INFESTED SHEEP.

XARAMU FARMER IN TROUBLE. WAIKATO'S IMMUNITY COMMENTED A rather unusual case, and one which should' serve as a warning to stock owners, was heard before Mr H. A. Young, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court. Hamilton, this morning, when a Karamu farmer, H. Haddock, was charged on the information of Stock Inspector Alexander .with offering for tale at Frankton saleyards a line of 1 sheep infected by lipe. Defendant stated that he had dipped the sheep ' before sending them to the yards. The only way he could account for the i presence of the lice was the fact that 6ome time ago he bought a line of sheep from Waingaro, and they possibly passed the lice —assuming the possibility of their having it—on to his own sheep. The Inspector stated that the WaiJiato district was particularly free from lice, and he was particularly anxious v that this condition of things should continue. However, in this particular case he did not press for a severe penalty, as the. case had been brought more as a warning than anything else. Defendant was fined £3 and costs 7s.
