McVillv, GeneralManager of Railways, that the board’s renewed application for the installation of electric light throughout the Putaruru railway station and yards could only bo considered with similar applications from oilier stations after present arrears ot urgent work had been overtaken, was considered a disappointment, Mr McVilly having given the board to understand some months 3go ,t,hat the installation woulsd be undertaken immediately on the working accounts of the railways showing a profit. In writing to assure the new eounty councillors for the district, Messrs E. J. Darby (Putaruru Riding) and K. S. Cox (Tokoroa Riding), of the hoard’s over-readiness to assist them in any matters for the progress and welfare of the district, the chairman was also instructed to bring to their notice the need for closing the level crossing at the Taumangi railway station, now that the overhead bridge was open for traffic, and the necessity for permanently improving the Lister’s Hill-Oraka bridge length mf the TirauPutaruru Road to give a good highway right from Putaruru to Hamilton, via Tirau and Cambridge, on I lie contra ot for the formation and metalling of the Oraka Bridge-Put,aruru Post Office length being completed.
