'Mr Geo. Smith, of Napier, and formerly of Hamilton, is here on a visit. Brigadier-General Andrews, C.M.G., Chief Commissioner of the Dominion Boy Scouts, is in Hamilton to-day. At a meeting of the Thames Harbour Board Mr R. Coulter, of Te Aroha, was elected chairman.. The of Railways (Mr Guthrie), who is still in the Bowen Street (Wellington) Hospital, is reported to be slowly improving in health. Mr H. Gladstone Hill will leave by to-night’s Main Trunk express for Wellington, en route to Christchurch. He expects to be absent for about a week. The death is announced from London of Mr H. W. Sparkes, Conservative member of the House of Commons for Tiverton (Devonshire). Dr. 11. W. Cleary, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, will return to Auckland by the Manuka, which leaves Sydney on Friday, June 1. Bishop Cleary has been abroad about 18 months. Mr James Sheat passed away on Sunday last at Ms residence, Te Aroha West, at the ripe ago of eightyfour, after a long illness. Mr Sheat was born at Boltonsborough, Somersetshire, England, in 1839, and was brought up in agriculture. He arrived at Lyttelton in December 1879, by the ship, Lady Jocelyn, and, after spending eighteen months in Canterbury migrated to Te Aroha West, where he purchased land from tho Government, and remained until his death. He leaves three sons and three daughters, with a number of grandchildren.
