ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.

Si- Mackay, a guard on the railways was pinned between two trucks at Whangarei station yesterday evening when he was assisting in shunting operations. When rescued he was in a state of collapse, and suffering great pain.
WELLINGTON, Friday
At the inquest on Herbert Reginald Johnson, who was killed as a result of being knocked down by a motorcar drives by'Thomas F. Bailey, the coroner returned a verdict that' the cause of death was a fractured; skull received through being knocked down by a. motor-car negligently driven by Bailey, who had ignored all notices warning motorists . against tramcars and excessive speed.
AUCKLAND, Saturday
An elderly married woman, Mary Stanley, was knocked down by a tramcar at Epsom. The swift application of the brakes saved her life. She was' taken to a hospital in a semi-ccAi-scious state. Her condition is still serious. '
MASTERTON, Friday
While fording cattle' through the Whareama River this morning, Mr C. N. Stilborn found the body of a man considerably decomposed, lying in 2ft. of water. The body was later identified as that of Frank Marshall, aged 33, a' returned soldier, who had been working in the district for 18 months. Marshall had been missing since April 14.
