VALEDICTORY.
FAREWELL FUNCTION AT HUNTLY.
On Saturday last, at the School of Mines, Huntly, a farewell smoker and presentation was held as a farewell to Mr W. Wood, late manager of the Extended Mine, Huntly, who has severed his connection with the Taupiri Mines, Ltd., to take over the management of the Campbell Coal Company, Whatawhata. There was a representative gathering of mine ofUcials and prominent citizens, Mr L. B. Harris being in the chair. A lengthy toast list was gone through, including "The King," "The Guest of the Evening" (Mr Wood), "The New Superintendent" (Mr J. Watson), "The New Mine Manager" (Mr J- Makmson), etc. High appreciation of Mr Wood as a public spirited citizen and a trustworthy official of the, Taupiri mines, where he has laboured diligently for the last fifteen years, was expressed by several speakers, with their best wishes for Mr Wood's success in his new sphere of activities.
The presentation took the form of an oak roll-top desk, and a silver cake basket for Mrs Wood, suitably inscribed.
