Lady Evelyn Cecil headed a deputation to the Lord Chancellor (Viscount Cave) as a protest against present press reports of divorce and similar. cases, which, they declared, were often revolting and lowering to publio morals. No foreign nation allows euoJb, detailed publications as Britain. The deputation handed over a petition sigxn ed by 250,000 people. The Lord Chancellor sympathised and pointed out the difficulty of the legal suppression of reports. He suggested a conference with newspaper proprietors and editors, and also tho promotion of a debate in the House of Commons in order to organise public opinion in favour of the deputation')* object.
