A WHITE NEW ZEALAND.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —in your issue of the 10th inst a correspondent, signed B. Taylor seeks to answer our statement that Mr Richards was wrong in saying* that his party stands for “a white New Zealand.” He admits that there is no such plank iD the party’s ‘platform but pleads that it is a plank in our great unwritten British Constitution. It is pleasing to find he recognises the British Constitution is great. He evidently does not know that the Holland Revolutionary Party is an International Socialist body that is against the British Constitution. It is against making any tUstthction of races, and therefore strikes at the root of the white New Zealand idea, lie says: “Surely the name_ of the New Zealand Labour Party is sufficient guarantee.” It is not because the name does not rightly belong to the combination of Red Revolutionists who are now masquerading as Labour. It i s not Labour, but a party that is out to exploit Labour. In his letter Mr Taylor made this statement: “Does the Welfare League think , that working men forget Mr Massey’s proposal made some months agao in the -House to employ gangs cf Hindoos in tile Otira tunniel works, a proposal made while there were hundreds of men of our own colour out of work? The proposal was dropped because of the vigorous opposition of the Labour members of Parliament.” We considered it only British to give Mr Massey a chance to reply to that charge; here is his answer sent by wire:—“Your letter of yesterday receijved respecting letter appearing in Waikato Times stating about employment of gangs of Hindoos in Otira tunnel works is an absolute- fabrication, and there is. not a tittle of trutn in statement. —Signed W. F. Massey.” In the face of that statement of Mr Massey’s we submit that Mr Taylor should either withdraw his statement, or prove that Mr Massey Is wrong. We- leave it to your readers to judge. —We are, etc., N.Z. WELFARE LEAGUE. November 18, 1922.
