TERROR IN LOUISIANA

Though White House nefused to authorise any statement regarding the conference between the President and Mr J. M. Parker, Governor of Louisiana, the Attorney-General,' Mr H. H. Daugherty, has issued' a statement declaring that the State of Louisiana is amply capable of handling the Ku Klux Klan, though the Federal Government is ready to extend aid whenever necessary. . , x Hundreds of protests' from every part of Louisana have poured in, declaring that no such situation exists as ha s been asserted, but Mr Parker has issued a statement declaring that certain terrorising outrages and horrifying crimes have been committed, and ft is vital thaj; responsibility shall be fixed and the'offenders punished. He reiterates that the State is fully able to cope with the situation.
Few recent events have so stirred the American .public as the report of the Klan’s activities in Louisiana. The item overshadowed all other news in the newspapers of the country..
