LEAGUE FOOTBALL

8. AUCKLAND v. WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., Wednesday. South Auckland (holders of the Northern Union Cup) met and defeated the Wellington representative team to-day, before a poor attendance of about 500. In the first spell, Balks, the Wellington full-back, kicked three goals, one from half-way, and thus scored the whole of the six points obtained by his side throughout the game. Guthrie, on the South Auckland wing, scored an unconverted try, and the spell ended with the scores: Wellington 6, South Auckland 3. In the second spell, Auckland went at it with the wind at their backs, and pressed all the time. B. Paki, on the wing, scored four tries, and the fullback, Sherlock, also scored. Raynor, T. Peckham and W. Hall converted one try each.
