ATTEMPTED MURDER
THE PETONE SENSATION. JONES COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Saturday. Benjamin Junes was charged at the Petono Magistrate's Court, with attempting to murder Constables Morrison and Harrison, at Petone, on August Jo. tie pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial. Bail was refused. The constables were attempting I" s( rve a writ upon Junes when lie attacked them with a revolver. He allegedly tired four shots, but missed, and was about to lire again witli the revolver close [n one constable s body when Ihe other constable knocked it aside.
The police have been advised from Balclulha that Thomas Hawker Barren, aged 22, was found dead on the riverside with a rifle bullet through his head.
