THE ROWING SEASON

HAMILTON CLUB'S OPERATIONS. BUSINESS AT ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Hamilton Rowing Club was held last evening, when Mr I. W. St. Clair occupied the chair. There was a good attendance of members. The eighteenth annual report stated that Ihe active membership of the Club numbered 43. The Club's annual regatta was held on January 20. Though as popular and successful from the oarsmen's and public's point oi view as in previous years, owing to heavier expenses, including the extra payment for the first inter-provincial fours race, and the failure of the public to patronise a special train guaranteed by the committee, a slight loss had to be borne by the general fund. The-Club was represented during the season at the Piclnn 5.7..) Championship Kegatta, Ngamnwnhki. Hamilton, ruingiriri and Wanganui Regattas with the greatest success. Special mention was made in the report of the first N.Z. Championship to be won by the Club, by the victory of Mr 1. W. SI. I Clair in the Single Scull Championship la) Picton. The heartiest congratulations nf the committor were extended In litis member for the iiiah honour I which he had won for the niul). The Club was aiso represented in Hie double scull and pair oar championship races by Messrs St. Clair and Molesworth and Reavcn and Molesworth. The success achieved by these members assured that 'other high honours would be won for Ihc club. The following crews also won regatta honours: —Maiden Double Sculls: First at Hamilton and Ncaruawahfa 'Messrs Marshall and Buchanan). Junior Four: First at Wanganui (Messrs Marshall, Payne. Marks and Win). Senior Pair: Firr.t at Hamilton (Messrs Reavcn and Molesworth). Senior Double: First at Hamilton and Wanganui (Messrs St. Clair and Molesworth). Single Sculls: First at Ngaruawahia (Mr St. Clair). The Club also competed for the Waikato Challenge Cup, but their representatives were ,-gain defeated by Ngaruawaliia Club. Second places were secured by Mr Molesworth, Single Sculls at Hamilton; Maiden Pair at Hamilton, and Youths Four at Hamilton and Rangiriri, and Maiden Four at Wanganui. This is a very creditable record, and as most of; the successful members arc again available, whilst other likely members arc ready to move into the seats vacated by them in their moves up the grade, the coming season Is expected to equal if not surpass the last. Club Races: Three series of trial fours were also rowed during the season for trophies presented by Mrs T. P. Walshc and Messrs H. H. Howden and I). Scott. These were all keenly contested, and it is hoped that the practice of holding trials will be continued during the coming season. Plant: The plant was increased during the season only by the purchase of a second-hand four and one set of oars. There arc. however, now on order two clinker •single seuLfc', and one R. and R. single scull boat, and these should he on hand for this season's regattas. We arc unable to secure the two practice fours which have been on order from Edwards and Son, Melbourne, for so long. Thanks: The committee acknowledged thanks for a ncmner of donations to the regatta and general funds, by cash and trophies, and the thanks of all members arc due to the friends who assist them in this manner, to the Press for their support, and to Ihe Indies who assisted on several occasions during'thc season, and especially in the stall run by them for the •■dub at. the regatta. In conclusion the committee wished to thank the members for the hearty support accorded during the season, and trusted that the same would be extended to the successors in office to whom the committee extended wishes for a very successful year.
