UNIFORMITY OF GAUGE. A COSTLY WORK. (United Press Association.) MELBOURNE, October 13. Tlie Uniform Railway Gauge Coinmission unanimously recommended J ft. Min. as the standard gauge for Australia. The cost of the Main Trunk lino from Freemantle to Brisbane is estimated at £18.000,000, and the cost of converting all tines except the Tasmanian at £37.000,000.
