SPEECH 3Y THE PRINCE. APPEAL FOR THE GUARANTEE. A PRACTICAL SUGGESTION. (United Press Association.) LONDON, October 12. I The Prince of Wales had an enthusiastic reception at Mansion House meeting in connection with the British Empire exhibition. He shared the vein of optimism which ran I through tlie speeches made by Mr Hughes and others last July, and also their undercurrent of anxiety that we in this country should be fully alive to what Mr Joseph Chamberlain once called “our vast undeveloped estates.” The Prince added; “What we want fo do is to teach the people that, the Empire which was worth dying for is worth living for and working for.” He referred feelingly to the question of unemployment, and offered as a practical suggestion that the work on this exhibition should be commenced immediately, thus giving immediate employment to thousands who had already served their country well. Tlie Prince concluded by appealing to the banking and commercial interests to guarantee £1,000,000 which could be used in the. constructional work of the exhibition. The Dominions were already doing their part, and | it would be a sorry thing if wc here I could not do our share.
