His Excellency the Governor-General, Viscountess Jellicoe, and party, will attend the Masterton races to-day and Saturday.
Mr P. Discombe, of Hautapu, is attending the Baptist Conference, at Wanganui. 1 Mr E. G. Jarrett, Government poultry instructor to the Auckland province, has been in Hamilton for the last two days.
Mr Withers, who has been attending the sitting of the Native Land Board, at Te Kuitl, returned to Hamilton yesterday morning. The death has occurred at Dunedin of Mr Walter John Meek, who established in New Zealand, in 1895, the ink manufacturing business which bears his name.
Premier Massey will shortly be installed as Worshipful Master of the Renown Lodge of Freemasons in Wellington. Mr Massey formerly held the office of senior warden in an Auckland lodge,.
Rev. E. O. Blamires is confined to his room with an attack of influenza. Rev. E. T. Olds, who has been ill for some weeks, is making good progress towards recovery, though still confined? to his bed.. The voluntary retirement is announced of Colonel R. J. Collins, Controller and Auditor-General, after 56 years in the civil service, which he first joined at the New Plymouth Militia Office in July, 1805. The office of AuditorGeneral is the only life position now on the statute books of the Dominion.
