PROGRESS OF THE WORK. The monthly meeting of the Centm Power Board, held yesterday, was atlended by Messrs '!'. Hinton ■chairman;. \Y. Henry, •'■ McGregor, W. Leo Martin. S. Rwid, A. Livingstone, E. A United IBlove The chairman reported that he had attended the Hydro-electricity League meeting at Auckland, when it was resolved to ap-proaeh the Prime Minister to raise a loan of £500.000 for hydroelectric development at Arapuni. Loans to the Board. The Public Trustee forwarded t.be September instalment of £SOOO as portion of the Hoard's loan of £60,000. The secretary-manager reported that the first portion (£60,000) of the Board's loan of £200,000 would be paid by December. The Board had made application for a further amount of £•18,000, payable at the rate of £4OOO per month from January next. Chairman's Allowance. The Public Works Department advised that the Minister had approved of the chairman's annual allowance being fixed at £2OO as from June 8. 1021. The Board resolved to also pay the travelling expenses incurred by its chairman outside the Board's area. Request for Power. It was decided to reply to Mr A. 0Smith, who made application to be connected with the To Rapa line, that the Board was willing to do so as long as it did not prejudice the Board's position in the dispute with the Borough Council. A Request Granted. The secretary-manager read communications he had forwarded to Messrs J. A. Young and R. E. Bollard. M's.P., seeking the exemption of power boards from the. Motor Vehicles Taxation Bill. Every local authority excepting the boards were originally exempted, and Mr Bollard had advised that he had interviewed the Minister ! n charge of the Bill and the Hon. Mr Stewart had advised that he. would exempt the boards when the Bill went before the Committee. The Board has replied thanking the members for their activities in this matter. Engineer's Report. The engineer's report stated:—During the month we have concentrated chiefly on service connections and the erection of transformers. West of Mating! sub.-stition, we have connected to date nine houses and five motors. North of Maiangi, from the transformer erected at Jamicson's corner, five houses and five motors have been ronncctcd. East of Matangj, as far as Plait's corner, only one additional motor has been installed since last meeting, and another one is in progress. Tauwhare-Eureka loop: Six more houses and motors have been connected during the past month and two more are in progress. Hospital district: Ten consumers have been connected since last meeting, and an extension of low-tension made from the hospital along Ohaupo road, Tawa street and Mahoe street. Contracts: Tenders for the supply of hare and insulated copper wire were considered at the. last meeting, Messrs Carrick, Wedderspnon and Go'.'s tender being accepted at £2,575 ss. An additional order was placed with Messrs Turnbull and Jones for urgent delivery of bare, copper wire at £IO7O. Tenders have been received during the month for the supply and delivery of 11,000volt insulators and pins; particulars of same arc attached herewith. A further order for transformers has been placed with the Maloney Transformer Company at £I4OO. The copper wire with Messrs Turnbull and Jones and the latter order for transformers were placed after considering the favourable state of the marketMaterials received: We have received the first portion of our material which has been on order so long, composed of a few hundred 3000-volt insulators and pins. Three testing instruments have also arrived. New work: The following new jobs have been started: Hillcrest road lowtension, Bankwood River road, and Frankton-Te Rapa line. The report was adopted. Finance.

The statement of bank account at 11th October, 1921, showed: —Credit balance at Bank. 12/9/21, £9854 19s; instalment from Public Trustee. £5000; received for work done, etc., £l3 lis; lighting, £1: rent. £f. 5s —£14.875 15s: accounts paid £5405 3s fid, leaving a balance of £9470 lis 6d.
