NGAHINEPOURI-TUHIKARAMEA

Rural fflail Delivery

A meeting of the Ngahinepouri settlers was held in the Mali on Saturday evening to consider the proposed new rural service, and also to receive a statement from the committee Messrs .), .1. Ilybuni and X. itcid of the pas', year's service. Mr Ilybuni reported that, Xgahinepouri’s contribution lo the Department, was itr>o per annum. There were Vd contributors, all of whom had paid their subscriptions. There was a credit balance of CO 19s. Our rural service in the past has been most satisfactory, although we feet that we have been penalised in having lo contribute for our mail service when the towns had free deliveries. The proposed new rural service was strongly condemned by the settlers, and the following resolution was passed: -"This meeting, representing the settlers of Ngahinepouri connected with flic Ohaupo-Nfra-liinepouri rural service, most emphatically protest against the proposition to charge £2 per annum for eacli household for a daily mail service. We protest that the rural policy of the Department discriminates against the country settlor as compared with the town resident, and is unjust in as much as town residents enjoy three deliveries daily, whereas country settlers must, subsidise even a triweekly service.” Tiie resolution is to be forwarded through Mr J. A. Young, M.P.. to the Minister in charge and the Chief Postmaster.
